About us

About Us
We’re Lloyd & Summer: an Australian guy and Kiwi girl who are quitting our jobs in March 2018 to travel around the world on bicycles.

So far, we’ve travelled quite extensively through Europe, United Kingdom and many other countries although not by bike. We met in London in 2016 and quickly realised we shared the same love for travel, adventure along with the burning desire to live a life less ordinary.

Due to Lloyd's visa running out in late 2016 we both returned to Melbourne (Australia) in Jan 2017 to find ourselves itching for a new adventure & lifestyle change.

How could we escape the 9-5 and do what we love doing? How could we do this for not just 3 months nor 6 months but for at least 2 years or ideally indefinitely?

This is where bicycle touring came in as it's not only a healthy and cheap way to travel, but also a challenging and adventurous way to travel. We decided that a self supported bicycle tour was for us which is where you carry everything you need to be completely self sufficient. heres a link for if you'd like more information on the different types of bicycle touring.

We intend staying with warmshowers hosts, wild camping and the odd hotel/backpackers into the mix. We also want to do some volunteer work along the way which is a great way to save money, meet some awesome people and give back. This is a lot cheaper than I originally thought and of course this is just an approx. Unexpected things can pop up and change these numbers significantly. We'll be keeping track on how much we spend in each place and will update you on our you tube channel.

About Summer
I was Born in New Zealand and have been working as a Digital (Web) Designer for over 10years. It has always been my ultimate dream to travel and work for myself remotely so I'm going to attempt to do just that. I have no real idea how everything is going to work, but I'm hoping that with a bit of determination and research I'll find a way. I guess sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith and just do it.

In terms of cycling experience....erm....ahhh... well.... I have none lol. I think the last time I road a bike was when I was 10 years old. Funny enough I'm actually quite scared of cycling as I don't really trust other drivers. I feel so vulnerable on a bike and that scares me. However the one thing that scares me most of all is working in an office 9-5. I love the outdoors and being fit & healthy so needless to say I would rather be stuck in a storm on my bike physically challenging my self than in a office sitting on my butt staring at a screen.

About Lloyd
I was born in South Africa and relocated to Melbourne, Australia with my parents when I was 4.

I think my love for travel started from when my parents would tell my brother and I were going back to South Africa to see the family. To be exposed to aeroplanes at a young age was a great thing for future Lloyd. We would head back roughly every 3-4 years. In my head, there was only 1 plane and for some reason a lot of people also wanted to go to South Africa the same time as we did. weird!

I have been working in the construction industry for the past 10 years as a carpenter, alongside my need for adventure and travel it has seen me move to Western Australia for 2 years and relocate to the United Kingdom at the end of 2014. I need to be closer to the rest of the world and to backpack through Europe & Africa was one of my dreams.

I wasn’t quite happy with the amount of backpacking I had done in my time abroad, so I returned to Australia at the start of 2017 with sights firmly set on traveling again in 2018. I had intentions whilst living in the UK to do a bicycle tour but I ran out of time due to my VISA deadline and with that I have had this burning desire to do a bicycle tour.

I truly believe that you should do whatever makes you happy.

Why bicycle touring

Why a bicycle?

We both love the idea of being self-sufficient and traveling independently experiencing the ‘places in-between’. After watching a few videos on how most people work there entire lives and wait till retirement to enjoy life,
we thought it might be a better approach to fit a few of those
retirement years in now. In the next 2 years we will also transition into a digital nomad life where we will document and share our experiences.
What better way to see the world and keep fit than by bike! Walking is too slow, by car is too fast, but by cycle the scenery is vast.
